A Bit About Me
I am an Australian artist living and creating in Melbourne.
I grew up bayside and gravitated to inner Melbourne in the 1980’s. Studying Graphic Art and Design I became frustrated with its constraints and drifted into nursing, later completing a Bachelor of fine arts at Victoria College (majoring in Photography). Working as a nurse and freelance photographer I eventually took up painting as my family became more self-sufficient. Collecting blank canvases, paints and materials, I eventually joined John Lawry’s painting group in 2004 and have been painting ever since.
My influences are my world around me, and my travels are a constant source of inspiration. I use my photographs and other found images as sources for my painting. Everything I see and do can inspire, and my direction is ever changing.
Painting on canvas or linen, I often begin with acrylics enjoying the immediacy of the medium. Layering with other mediums such as charcoal, pastel and inks also enable me to build up areas with a free sketchy quality. Sometimes I feel the push for detail, I slow down and that’s when the oils come out. Skies and water dominate and blue is a consistent colour amongst my diverse subjects.
Currently working in Melbourne I am now in the process of building a new home with a studio on the Surf Coast. I am looking forward to setting up my large format digital photo printer and painting in my own dedicated space.
